Research software for the people who do the research

SynopsisMD is an independent software company. We build tools for clinicians who have a clinical question, a dataset, and not much time.

Why we are building Nightfloat

Clinical research is often held together with spreadsheets and scripts that only their author can run. The analysis that produced a figure is somewhere, but the reasoning around it is not, and reproducing it six months later is its own project.

The tools that could help are usually out of reach. Anything that works by sending your data to someone else's servers is the wrong shape for patient records, which is why clinicians are told, correctly, not to paste patient data into a chat window.

Nightfloat takes the opposite approach. The analysis, the files, and the assistant all stay on the computer in front of the clinician. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to approve beyond the software itself. The source is available to read, so approval can rest on evidence instead of trust.

What we are working on

  • Nightfloat, the desktop application for clinicians. In development.
  • This website, which explains what Nightfloat does and how it behaves.
  • An organization edition for departments, research groups, and health systems that need one managed setup, hosted analysis, and reporting.

How we work

Local-first is not a marketing position for us. It is a constraint we design against. When a feature would need a server, it has to justify itself, and the answer is usually that it should not exist. Nothing about your research leaves your computer unless you send it somewhere yourself.

Not a medical device

Nightfloat is a research tool. It is not a medical device, it is not intended for the diagnosis or treatment of any condition, and it must not be used to make decisions about the care of an individual patient.
